“The photo session for Tom Petty was unusual. I was contacted by the LA Artist named Zox. Zox got the job from the record company to do the Album package / Art Direct. He knew me and my work and got me onboard to take photos in my California Spanish home studio on Coldwater Canyon in Beverly Hills. Zox specialty was air brushing. He airbrushed "makeup" for dramatic effect on everybody's face!” - Ed Caraeff, Photographer
"A print was made of the shot on which I airbrushed the exploding cloud behind his head and also gave him a little tonal enhancement. That painted print was used for the actual artwork that appears on the cover. I painted the background, suggested a bandelero and leather jacket, and Ed Caraeff captured the photograph.” -Zox, First Album cover art designer.
